Help needed

Okay, its confession time… I had a very bad weekend food-wise. By bad weekend, I mean bad. On Friday, after having a Slimming World friendly breakfast and lunch, I consumed the following:
  • One ham sandwich on white bread
  • 6 pints of beer
  • Half a bottle of medium wine
  • About 10 items from a sharing platter – including pitta bread, breaded mushrooms and deep fried rubbish
  • 1 packet of jelly beans
  • 1 packet of cheese and onion McCoy crisps
  • 1 sausage butty (they were syntactic sausages).
…Oh dear. That looks so bad in black and white, but it gets worse…

Not content with ruining my Friday. I went on to eat the following on Saturday:
  • 1 Greggs tuna crunch baguette
  • 1 packet of cheese and onion squares
  • A lot of random crap at my friend’s house -- including Haribo, salt and sweet popcorn, Doritos, hummus, Tahini Dip, Pringles…
Now I have managed to turn it around and Sunday, Monday and Tuesday (today) have been Slimming World friendly.

However, I am missing this week’s weigh in as I am in London with work between Wednesday and Thursday. Missing weigh in is far from ideal, but I am also worried about being let loose in London on expenses and completely blowing the diet.

I have thought of a few things I can do to help prevent a meltdown. Here are my ideas:
  • Take sachets of porridge with me and have these, topped with fruit as for breakfasts. I can cook these in the office each day
  • Go to the local deli and ask for a plain baked potato, with beans and an undressed side salad for lunch
  • Take some Mug Shots along for a quick, easy and filling Slimming World snack
  • Go to Pizza Express for my tea. Pizzas in the Leggera range have 12.5 syns in them
  • Use the hotel gym on both nights
  • Make sure I stick to diet coke and don’t hit the wine. It all goes wrong when wine is added into the equation…
I would love to go back to class next week with another 5lb loss. That would equate to 2.5lb a week. Obviously, after my weekend slips it may not be possible, but it is something to aim for.

Has anybody got any hints, tips or fast food ideas that might help me along?

Magic Porridge

Every Slimming World member knows that it’s common place for foodie fads to run through groups like wildfire. In our class we’ve had the baked bean lasagne stage, the Fanta chicken gimmick and Diet Coke chicken phase. Now it’s the turn of magic porridge…

With magic porridge, you stir your oats into a syn free yogurt the evening before you want to eat it and leave it in the fridge over night. Then, the next morning, your ‘magic porridge’ is ready to either eat cold, or to heat up.

The reason it is called ‘magic porridge’ is because you don’t have to cook the oats to eat them.
My fellow Slimming World group members all seem to be fans of the magic stuff, but I’ll be honest, I’ve had mixed results.

I found it to be a bit doughy in taste when I mixed my oats with a vanilla and toffee Muller Light, but just about edible when I heated it up. However last night I prepared a bowl using syn free natural yogurt and four tablespoons of sweetener and I really enjoyed it cold. I topped it with sliced banana and blueberries and it made a tasty, filling breakfast!

Oh and if anybody is wondering about baked bean lasagne, Fanta chicken and Diet Coke chicken, then watch this space. I plan on trying these recipes and I will blog the results.

Has anybody else heard of any random Slimming World concoctions?

Weigh in four

In my last weigh in post, I explained that my aim was to lose 5lb in the week ahead by having a few ‘Success Express’ days. Well, drum roll please………………………… I can now reveal that I did actually lose 5lb!

I was over the moon with this and happy that I set an aim and actually managed to achieve it. This loss also meant that I received a half a stone certificate. Happy days!
